Wedding Crashes, The

Wedding Crashes, The

I’m rapidly getting over this whole ‘Frat Pack’ thing. Sure it seems like this group of famous friends still have a ball making these comedies, but I’m not nearly enjoying myself as much watching them, and was left with the feeling that these dudes are just getting lazy now. Kind of like Oceans 12, it’s like they assume merely turning up and hitting repeat on a few gags and characteristics from their other movies is gonna be enough to entertain – and the huge-arse amount of cash this no doubt made would say they’re right (for now) – but it also shows a slight contempt for their audience. Am I the only one that cares about such things? A bit of self respect people.

It’s a good enough one-note idea for these guys to employ all their usual tricks in, that of a couple of guys who, rather obviously for anyone who has read the title, crash weddings to try and pick up chicks. Of course they fall for a couple of them, learn valuable life lessons, etc, but after a fairly predictable first two acts, it’s in this final third that the film suddenly becomes somewhat interesting

Not only does Will Ferrell step in with his hilarious still-at-home funeral crasher (I don’t usually quote movies in my reviews, but "grief is nature’s most powerfull aphrodisiac" is too good not to recognise) but it turns out the Vince Vaughn Owen Wilson buddy-pairing has a real pseudo-gay edge to it that provides a few amusing and interesting moments.

Still, for all its faults, these two do have enough charisma to at least keep things energetic for most of this overly-long outing, and it helps that Rachel McAdams is one of the prettiest and charming actresses of her generation, so I’m sure you can do worse for a lazy night on the couch. It’s just annoying that they don’t try any harder than they have to.
