Match Point

Match Point

I think saying this is Woody's best film in years, as many have, is a bit of a backhanded compliment – really just a way of saying his other films have totally sucked (which I don't necessarily agree with) and thus this shines in comparison.

Match Point is pretty much just Crimes and Misdemeanours revisited - but in London with younger, prettier, more loathsome aristocratic characters facing the same moral dilemmas – albeit with a strong motif about the role chance and luck can play in fate.

For what it's worth I enjoyed it, and surprisingly got quite enthralled and fascinated by the assortment of cold characters and somewhat stereotypical depiction of British class warfare, but I must admit it wasn't as accomplished or intelligent as I had been led to believe, and it's hard to get too excited about something you've seen done before, and done better.
