Last King Of Scotland, The
Yeah, Forrest gave a good performance here but Last King didn’t engage me in the least to be honest. It seemed to rely on the same tone shift again and again as goofy yet vulnerable yet gassy Idi Amin turns into crazy menacing genocidal dictator Idi Amin in a heartbeat. Then just when he gets scary, irrational and violent he farts and turns back into pussycat Amin. Then just when you think he is a lonely soul trying to establish a genuine friendship he snaps. Etc, etc.
I was dead tired when watching this however and probably in the mood for something less….. political…but still, at the end of the day, as is so often the case with these historical biopics, I’m left with the feeling that I would have preferred to have spent the time watching a good doco on the subject instead.
