Overnight (Uncle Cliff)

Only watched this out of curiosity after seeing Overnight; the riveting documentary on the making of this film. It is exactly what everyone always told me it was: a case of a guy watching Tarantino’s films, missing the point of why they’re so great, thinking ‘Fuck! I can do this and be a rock-star filmmaker too!’ and making a film with violence for the sake of violence and with serial killers and gangster characters loaded with bad idiosyncrasies and bullshit moralistic reasoning behind their murderous rampages. Add to that a massive rip off of Leon: The Professional as Willem Defoe’s eccentric detective character apes Gary Oldman’s brilliant performance – and a third act that doesn’t make a lick of fucking sense and you’ve got one great big crapfest on your hands.
